Preveli Beach and Lagoon, sometimes known locally as “Palm Beach”, is located below the Preveli Monastery, at the mouth of the Kourtaliótiko Gorge. Behind the beach is an extensive glade of palm trees. The beach is regularly served by tourist boats from Agia Galini and the nearby resort of Plakias or it can be reached by driving, about 35km from Agia Galini or Rethymno.

On the banks of the Grand River there is a large colony of Theophrastus palm trees, which give the region a sense of a tropical landscape. The river forms a small lake, 500m long, before emptying into the sea, and has water all year round. You can walk along the river, under the shade of palm trees and other trees, and start ascending in the beautiful canyon.

If you are visiting Crete is definitely a must see place!!
