One of my favourite spots in Athens is the picturesque Plaka.

Plaka, often referred to as the “Neighborhood of the Gods,” is a historic district in Athens that has been continuously inhabited since ancient times. It developed around the ruins of the Ancient Agora and has seen various phases of urban development, especially during the Byzantine era as well as during and after the Greek independence.

Today, Plaka’s tangle of winding thoroughfares is a delight to explore. Dappled with neoclassical mansions, fragrant with gardenias, and filled with street musicians, it’s the perfect place for a pre-dinner stroll. You can blend Plaka’s ambience with Greek culture and great food by visiting its many cafes and restaurants, which offer traditional Greek dishes like moussaka, spanakopita, and souvlaki.
