Patmos – The Sacred Island

Patmos is globally known as the place where John the Evangelist (also known as Apostle John) wrote the Book of Revelation.

The Apostle John received the visions that are recorded in the Book of Revelation of the New Testament while on the island of Patmos, which is also where the book was authored. Patmos is globally acknowledged as the “Jerusalem of the Aegean” or the “Island of the Apocalypse.”

In 1981, Greece proclaimed Patmos a “Sacred Island,” and in 1999, UNESCO added the Historic Centre (Chora), along with the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian and the Cave of the Apocalypse, to its list of World Heritage Sites.

Patmos is a destination preferred by nature lovers and other holidaymakers who seek to experience the spiritual atmosphere of this location in a setting of beautiful landscapes and seascapes.
