Nisyros: A Lesser-Known Gem in the Dodecanese.

If you are tired of overpriced and crowded places and want a more authentic Greek vacation, consider visiting Nisyros. This island is one of the Aegean Sea’s last remaining paradises. Featuring an active volcano and home to unique settlements, Nisyros is one of the most captivating islands in Greece. Located in the Dodecanese complex, it’s just an hour away from Kos.

Landforms owe their shapes to various geological processes, including volcanic eruptions.

For me, the most impressive sight on the island was the 14th-century Panagia Spiliani Monastery, which is mainly housed inside a cave on the island’s rockface. Nisyros is a hiker’s dream, offering numerous well-trodden paths that connect villages and lead to remote natural wonders.
