The town of Metsovo is nestled on the verdant slopes of the Pindos Mountains in the Epirus region.
Epirus is already known as a region with tons of traditional and authentic character villages but Metsovo is definitely the King of them.
Wander on the cobblestone streets, observe the stone-built houses, breathe the fresh air, and explore the other side of Greece.
Metsovo is often known as a winter destination, with its snow-covered alleys offering a spectacular white scenery. However, I would argue that nature lovers should consider visiting Metsovo in the summer. Due to its altitude of 1,200 meters, the village enjoys cooler temperatures even in the warmer months, making it ideal for comfortable hiking.
Metsovo is an all year round destination located in the heart of Pindos National park with tons of hiking trails, next to exciting Valia Calda and two Ski Centers for the Ski lovers.
The region is renowned for its winemaking traditions and traditional cuisine. During your visit, be sure not to miss “Metsovone,” a locally produced smoked cheese made from cow’s milk.
Also, don’t miss the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos, a stunning 16th-century monastery. Visit the Averofeios Garden, a folk art museum displaying the rich history, culture, and traditional crafts of the Vlachs and the surrounding area. A drive to Aoos Springs Lake, located about 25km from the village, reveals a breathtaking sapphire paradise.
Metsovo offers a memorable experience for travelers seeking the authentic feel of a village.
