Methoni – Messinia , your charming trip back in time
Methoni is famous because of its historical castle build in the 13th century.
Situated in the southeast of the Peloponnese, it was known for its port, which held significant strategic and commercial value.
The Methoni Castle is remarkably well-preserved and ranks among the largest in the Mediterranean. It is truly one of the finest castles I have ever visited.
Methoni is a small village with a population of around 2.500, featuring a handful of tavernas and cafeterias, and is home to very hospitable locals. They are known to warmly invite visitors into their homes to offer them something.
In Methoni, right in the village and especially on the beach, you’ll discover a variety of activities including kite surfing, kayaking, and rafting. If you’re a nature enthusiast, you can embark on an organized hiking or cycling tour along some outstanding trails.
Make sure not to miss the day boat tour to Sapientza Island, located just across from Methoni. On this quaint island, you’ll be greeted by captivating beaches and trails that promise to fuel your desire for unparalleled experiences.
The lush vegetation of the island, set against the clear turquoise waters, gives the impression of being on an exotic island.
There are several other uninhabited islands in the vicinity that one could explore, but unfortunately, I did not have the time to discover them.
