The Panathenaic Stadium, also known as Kallimarmaro, is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens and one of the city’s main historic attractions.

It was constructed around 330 BC by the Athenian orator Lykourgos. The stadium originally had a parallelogram shape, with an entrance on one end and spectator seats on three sides.

The Kallimarmaro Stadium hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

Until 1985, the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens was in a state of disrepair. The government decided to restore it with marble to host the Olympic Games. It is the only stadium in the world entirely built of marble.
