The Imbros Gorge ranks as the second most frequented gorge by hikers in Crete, following the Samaria Gorge.

Located in the southwestern part of Chania, near Sfakia, it is considered the small sister of the Samaria Gorge. It may be easier and shorter to hike, but the natural beauty of Imbros is no less breathtaking than that of Samaria.

There is an entrance fee of 2.5€ per adult over the age of 13.

The hike is 8 km long and it will take between 2,5 to 4 hours to complete, depending on your pace. If you are hiking during the hot months, ensure you have ample water, but note that a small kiosk is located about halfway through the hike where snacks and drinks are available.

The elevation gain is modest, just 650 meters. The hike begins in the village of Imbros, but you may opt to start from Komitades if you’re with family or children, as it’s an easier route. Regardless, the trail is family-friendly, and spring is the ideal season to go when the flora is in full bloom.

At the end of your hike in Komitades, you’ll find various transportation options available to return. You can opt for a bus at 5€, a taxi, or even a private transfer, which typically costs around 30€.
