Have you ever tasted Greek Koulouri ?
Greece’s sesame ring bread known as “koulouri”, is the ideal fast snack breakfast and not only for the Greeks!
Koulouri, a circular semi-sweet bread with sesame seeds, is a traditional Greek snack that always awakens the sweetest memories of my childhood and is at the same time one of the healthiest sources of carbohydrates, proteins and other nutrients and energy.
Thessaloniki, located in northern Greece, appears to be the city of origin, despite not having a registered designation of origin. The sesame-seed koulouri is synonymous with the city of Thessaloniki, with its origins dating back to the Byzantine Empire. It primarily emerged in Constantinople and Thessaloniki during that era.
In both Greece and Turkey, Koulouri is readily available to this day, often found in bustling city centers where crowds gather. Vendors carry them in large baskets, selling them directly from the baskets or from glass, mobile displays.
