Feta cheese’s history in Greece spans almost as long as human history. Originating from the first cheese created about 8,000 years ago, it came into existence shortly after the domestication of animals. It is thought that the cheese’s fermentation process began during the transportation of milk in the stomachs of goats or sheep.
To be labeled as feta, the cheese must originate from Greece. The term ‘feta’ comes from an ancient Greek word meaning ‘slice,’ and since 2002, feta has been recognized as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product within the European Union.
Feta cheese, with its rich supply of essential minerals and nutrients, is an excellent choice for health enthusiasts, and fortunately, it’s also delectable!
