About Santorini

Santorini, also known as Thera in Greek, is an island immortalized by poets and painters thanks to its celebrated light, multicolored cliffs, and picture-perfect sunsets.

Santorini has been voted time and again as the most beautiful island in the world. Readers of high esteemed travel related magazines such as “Travel and Leisure”, “Conde Nast Traveler”, “Global Traveler” and “VIE Magazine” voted Santorini as the best and most beautiful island destination in Europe and worldwide.

The beauty and the glory of Santorini is praised every year by its visitors, Oia’s sunset has been claimed to be the most breathtaking in the world and the view from Imerovigli is simply stunning. The island has been featured on the international spotlight for many years, for plenty of good reasons.

Santorini’s dramatic landscape owes its origin to one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history—the Minoan eruption (sometimes called the Thera eruption) which occurred about 3,600 years ago, during the peak of the Minoan civilization. The eruption left behind a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of meters deep. Today, it is mainly a water-filled caldera.

Wander through narrow alleys in villages like Oia and Fira, where whitewashed buildings with cobalt-blue domes cling to cliffs, creating a striking contrast against the azure sea.
