Monastiraki Square, located in the heart of Athens, is a must-see destination for travelers visiting the city.

It is popular with both locals and visitors from all over the world. Located under the shadow of the Acropolis, Monastiraki is a unique neighborhood that has been inhabited for six thousand consecutive years! It is among the oldest, most historic and important neighborhoods in Western Culture.

Following the Greek revolution, the monastery experienced a decline and a notable reduction in size. Consequently, it was dubbed “the little monastery” or “Monastiraki”, a name that eventually came to represent the entire district. Nearby, an ancient mosque stands close to the temple, now serving as a Museum of Greek Folk Art.
