Initially, I would advise breaking down your essential needs for your trip to Milos. Maybe your aim is to unwind, enjoy a book on the beach, or meander through quaint alleys, so it ultimately hinges on your personal preferences.
The island is small but has very good bus connections. Renting a car would be the ideal choice if you’re planning your stay, as it will provide flexibility and allow you to book accommodations anywhere on the island.
If you’re looking to avoid renting a car, whether for affordability or other reasons, Adamantas is an excellent choice. As the island’s main port, it offers everything within walking distance: enchanting streets, shops, bakeries, markets, and many of the island’s finest restaurants. Being the main port, there is frequently a bus connection to various other parts of the island. Adamas, or Adamantas, is also family-friendly. The area boasts a number of beautiful beaches perfect for a day out.
Most visitors stay in either Adamantas or Pollonia. Pollonia is also recommended for families as a suitable area to stay. It is a quiet area ideal for kids and families, with great beaches being its top attraction. There are, of course, a few boutique shops, restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and bars.
For those seeking nightlife and excitement, the capital of Milos, Plaka, is the place to be. Though it’s a small town compared to other islands, it boasts a variety of nightclubs, bars, and excellent shopping opportunities for entertainment, along with enchanting whitewashed streets perfect for a leisurely walk. Situated at the island’s highest point, Plaka offers a scenic setting on a hilltop. It’s important to note that the village is largely pedestrianized, yet everything you need is conveniently accessible on foot.
For those on a budget, consider accommodations in Pachaina, Tripiti, or the smaller villages and remote areas of the island, where prices are likely to be more affordable.
Booking accommodation in the picturesque fishing villages of Klima, Mandrakia, or Fyropotamos can be a wonderful experience. However, it’s important to note that these locations are quite tranquil, as there are no restaurants or shops.
